I don't understand why this Wells Fargo cover was marked collect, pretty sure that the transcontinental rate was 3 cents per half ounce when this was sent from Albion Cal, to Boonville, New York. Really no indication that the cover was triple weight, what was there to collect, and why the extra 6 cents. Something else odd, the stamp at the lower left was torn before it was canceled, who ever applied the torn stamp did so carefully, as it looks as though it wasn't torn all the way across. Odd that both stamps have different cancels, was one applied in New York as indicated by the tie, and the torn stamp applied in Boonville?
i don't have answers, but i have an observation. The two 65s were cancelled by different devices, which are different from WF cancel on the imprinted stamp.
Don, do all the cancels tie the stamps to the cover? Do any of the stamps overlay cancels? my eyes aren't that good.
