Discussion Board Rules

New User Information

1. Open to Everyone

Anyone may read messages posted on the Stamporama Discussion Board. Membership in Stamporama is a requirement to post messages.

2. NO Advertising!

The Discussion Board is intended for discussion purposes. Commercial ads are prohibited and will be deleted as soon as seen by a moderator. If you want to promote your business or website, you may do so discretely using a personal statement under your avatar or in your message footer as part of your posts. Our policy in summation: "Contribute and be discrete, and you are welcome. Dump your advertising on us and you are welcome to leave".

Individuals MAY include discussions of dealers, suppliers, auction houses, and others who deal in philatelic products, as well as the products themselves. While we do not permit commercial advertising, we think it a service to share our experiences with those who are asking related questions. When posting, please restrict yourself to factual statements that answer questions posted. Ad hominem attacks are forbidden. Focus on those suppliers with whom you've had positive experiencies; allow silence to speak for itself except when specific information on policies or business models help to understand what another is likely to encounter.

3. Choosing a Discussion Title and a Fitting Topic/Sub-Topic

Please choose a descriptive title for new discussions that you start. An informative subject line stating the main key words is not only a courtesy to other members who wish to know what the discussion is about, but also ensures that discussions can be readily located in the future using our search function. Similarly, please post new discussions in the best fitting sub-topic category so that information is more readily accessible in the future.  Example: Do not post a discussion named "Are These Legit?" in "General Philatelic Discussions". Instead, start the same discussion descriptively titled "Germany: Need Help Identifying Inflation Era Cancellations" in the German area section of the discussion board.

The Discussion Board is provided for the purpose of discussion of philately and issues related to Stamporama. Discussions not related directly to stamp collecting or Stamporama, except for the "Other Hobby and Collectable Interests" topic, will be removed.

Discussion Board moderators may change titles for clarity, move discussion topics to better fitting categories, and remove any threads or replies, without advance notice to the poster, which do not follow Discussion Board and Classified Ads Rules.

4. Other Do's and Don'ts

This is a family oriented, moderated discussion board. Abusive or otherwise inappropriate postings are not tolerated and will be immediately deleted by a moderator. The purpose of the discussion board is to facilitate philatelic discussion and interaction between members. The discussion board can be read by non-members. Therefore, members should not include their contact information and/or email address in their posts. Any member interested in contacting another member privately should retrieve the other member's contact information from the member section of the website, or use the Stamporama personal message system.  Members have the option to receive email notifications about any new postings. Do not "spam" other members' email notifications by conducting private communications on the discussion board. Specifically, do not work out the details of a trade, an offer for sale, or an offer to buy, in public view. Instead, contact the member by email or use the Stamporama message system.
