I know that trying to get US self adhesives off of envelopes requires dynamite and various caustic chemicals with no guarantees. Linn's used to have a column that listed US stamps and rated their soakability. I haven't seen any recent articles for a long while. But I do not remember Canadian issues ever being mentioned. Any clues from our members north of the border?

The only issues I would not soak are the Montreal Canadiens hockey stamps - Scott 2340a,b,c.
They are lenticular -ie 3D. I tried on one(it was already damaged) and it was a total disaster. The others you have to have patience with are greeting stamps such as Scott 1507 and 1508. Not because they are self adhesives but because if there is a label in the middle, there is double paper. The rest I have no problems with except not enough patience.

Tad:

All Canadian self-adhesive stamps will soak off in warm water.

Work as you normally would with a regular stamp. When the stamp slides off, there is a thin layer, not unlike rubber cement, that you rub off the stamp, with your finger.

Dry and press as normal.

Now the stamp is ready to mount into your album or trade with someone.

Hope this helps!

I have never had a problem with the Canadian S/A all have soaked off easily in luke-warm water and I've never found any residue on the back like other S/A issues.

I've found that if I let my Canadian S/A stamps soak off the paper in the warm water there will be no glue residue left behind, if I pull them from the paper the glue comes with it. That's where the patience comes in for me because they will pull easily from the paper once they've soaked long enough, but then you have glue to contend with!

Thanks for the advice!! I was successful in soaking 2 recent issues with no problem. I only wish US issues would be so easy.
