The Discussion Board Rules are set forth HERE (under the New User Info Page)
The Rule most often violated which necessitates action by a Moderator is Rule number 4:
"4. Other Do's and Don'ts
This is a family oriented, moderated discussion board. Abusive or otherwise inappropriate postings are not tolerated and will be immediately deleted by a moderator. The purpose of the discussion board is to facilitate interaction between our members. Because the discussion board can be read by non-members, members should not include their contact information and/or email address in their posting. Any member interested in contacting a member privately should retrieve the other member's contact information from the member section of the website, or use the Stamporama personal message system. Members have the option to receive email notifications about any new postings. Please do not "spam" other members' email notifications by conducting private communications on the discussion board. Specifically, do not work out the details of a trade in public view. Instead, contact the member by email or use the Stamporama message system."
As a Moderator, I really have very little to do other than to monitor the Board as SOR members are generally very polite, considerate, and "law abiding" () citizens. Over 90% of the actions I take as Moderator (when you see those pesky "Modified by Moderator" notes) are activation of links in posts. However, on those few occasions when I do have to make modifications or delete some or all (VERY seldom) of a post, it is a result of a violation of Rule Number 4 (set out in full above).
Other than activation of links, all Moderators have agreed to notify members when taking an action requiring alteration of a message. If you EVER have occasion to question an action of a Moderator, please do so vociferously; but before you do please read the Rules (especially Rule number 4) and make sure that it wasn't as the result of an obvious violation.
From all the Moderators, THANK YOU! We are here to "Serve and Protect"

john, I love how you sneakily changed Bobby's year. probably just an accident that certain numbers were reversed and the resulting change hardly a political PoV.

Looking at the time of this thread posting, I am assuming this is related to a comment / post (#5) I made in this thread. But I haven't received any private messages from any moderators, so I cannot be sure.
For the record, I do not believe I was "initiating" a trade nor providing any details about how to trade with me. It was in response to a member who outright suggested that a stamp was junk; and I responded that if so, the member may well trade or sell it to me. At that level of detail, I don't know how this constitutes a "no details" infraction.
Keeping the entire message private would be of no avail either, for the main part of the post was to suggest that that particular postmark was not run-of-the-mill, something that all members on the forum can benefit from.

Hey, guys. Stop worrying. If you transgress I will message you or place a message on the board within the topic applicable. This post is simply me being proactive. It is an easy slip to casually mention you want to trade for something you see on the board, and if that is as far as it goes, I see no foul. The rule is aimed at back and forth discussions about a potential trade which should be conducted "back channel" (SOR message or email).
Rule #4 is long and the trade stuff is at the end - and a lot of folk miss seeing it. It is part of the rules which is very important to many members who do not want to see the discussion board turned into a trading post. We want to confine trade talk to the appropriate topic, and even then want the details worked out elsewhere.
I am really enjoying the wealth of knowledge and interesting posts by our new members. Keep it coming and do not worry about the mean ol' moderator - I am here to help, not hinder, the flow of discussion.
Bobby
