I found this previously unidentified Type 2/#1 Doane cancel from a short lived South Dakota post office. I have sent a picture of it to Gary Anderson, who maintains the Doane database and he has confirmed that it is unlisted and it will now be included in the next update.
Ironically I got this at an auction that Gary was at in a small box lot. He missed it and I didn't notice it either until I got through the box at home. I am pretty sure that he will be the next owner. We are already working on a trade.

re: Previously Unidentified Doane
A friend contacted me with some information on Mr. Ice, the young man this cover is addressed to. It turns out that he was an early aviation pioneer that consulted Lindberg and trained over 2000 pilots including legendary WW1 pilots. He flew commercially until he was 83 and lived until he was 103.

re: Previously Unidentified Doane
Yep. Good find, postmarks. I have also been able to report 2 or 3 new Doanes, several EKU/LKU updates, and one error correction to the Doane list over the last few years. I have an unambitious collection of Ohio, but check all that come across my desk against the list.
I think these are nice collectible postmarks. The existence of a catalog makes all the difference. But overall, there does not appear to be much interest in these cancels. Case in point, I checked our member database and only exactly one of our members gives Doanes as an interest. But perhaps I am all wrong and this thread gets a few folks to come out.
Hi I have a collection of cancels and have begun to organize them....I have several Doane cancels but have a lot more to learn about the different types of cancels... any help will be greatfully appreciated...I have checked several websites for info...Cheryl

re: Previously Unidentified Doane
I have no idea how many I have. I have not actively pursued them. I only collect a few states and I do notice that a bunch of the early 20th century from the smaller towns are Doane's. I should take inventory to see what I have. My guess is the majority of what I have are from places that I do not collect, but they were part of a box lot that is now part of the hoard. I should get them out for the folks that do look for these.

re: Previously Unidentified Doane
I second postmarks last comment: I "collect" (= throw in a cigar box for future collection building) only any Ohio Doanes I come across. Surely have some from other states in nooks and crannies. Trading those one-for-one may be the best way to give everyone what they truly want, so if you got any OH and want other States, let me know (by PM, not to drive Bobby nuts ).

re: Previously Unidentified Doane
My methods are completely different from Arno's for dealing with the mass of covers. (I use shoe boxes instead of cigar boxes.) While the idea of driving Bobby nuts appeals to me in some strange way, I will be looking for Ohio cancels for possible trade and sending him an email. Does anybody else have a state they are looking for? I will take anything from Minnesota, Alaska or Hawaii. Does that border on driving Bobby nuts, or is that allowed?

re: Previously Unidentified Doane
I think it makes a lot of sense to suggest trading interests of specialized items in the areas on the DB which relate to those specialties. However, I would request that if anyone wants to pursue trades based on those suggestions, that they do so "back channel," i.e., via SOR message or email.
While I cannot speak for the other moderators, I believe anything which furthers members' collecting endeavors is acceptable unless it blatantly violates one of the cardinal rules (self promotion, disrespect for other members, etc.)

re: Previously Unidentified Doane
Here are some Wesson cancels, also know as "Time-on-Bottom" (TOB). named after Walter D. Wesson, the inventor/designer:
The Bos. Prov & N.Y. RPO is probably my best Wesson; the other two from Boston, Philadelphia, also Chicago, are run of the mill. Important not just to show the magnificent, but what one can reasonably collect on the cheap. I can't say that I collect these, but always pick them up when I get them for $1. Just getting all the numbers and letters for the most common cities with the most common canceller design is going to be challenging. BTW: They also exist as backstamps, so always flip your covers .
A while back I was on a desperate search for a catalog for these. The void has been filled now by the U.S. Cancellation Club, but the old discussion still has some worthwhile info: Reference books on Wesson Time on Bottom cancels
The Willett-Thompson Collection on CD and DVD has a lot of Doanes. It is available from the Postmark Collectors Club. The CD's are for a few states and all the U.S. is on 2 DVD's.
