Hello I am new to this web site, but to a few of you, if any of you remember me, I'm an old familiar name from SCF I quit going on there a few years ago because I felt from one of the members that I was asking to many dumb questions n to do my own research and I did try myself to research many things before I'd ask any "DUMB" questions, but back then I was a newbie I'd inherited a big stamp collection and was trying to learn what I had really had. I met some GREAT people there n did keep contact with a few of them for awhile but I had lost my interest in my collection and packed up all my collection n stored them away in my garage. I since then have not done any kind of anything that had to do with stamps I was discouraged from stamping because I let one member get to me,so I was curious the other day and found this web site and I checked it out before I joined to see if this might be a better place with nicer people on it I noticed there is a place to ask all the "DUMB" questions that I want so I'm going to give this a try. My name is Tina for those of you who remember me HELLO THERE please reply if you remember me I'm looking forward to start stamping again but I'm a little rusty so to say lol so bare with me please

Welcome Tina. Stamporama is a friendly place with lots of people willing to answer questions. You can also search through past threads ....many topics for beginners have been extensively discussed. There is something here for all levels of collectors. Sally

Welcome! And - nice to meet you!

Sally gave you excellent advice - if you have a question, first search the old discussions - there is a WEALTH of information in there. I've been collecting for 50 years (I started before I was born LOL) and I learn something new every time I browse old topics. But - don't hesitate to ask. There are many extremely knowledgeable philatelists here who are very generous with their time contributing to the discussions. And we have FUN, too!

re: Who remembers me?

Hi Tina,

As someone more famous than me on this board would say if he wasn't on holiday "The only dumb question is the one you don't ask"

This site has collectors with abilities ranging from complete newbie to very, very expert. We all have one thing in common - we were all beginners once (and some of us haven't got much further after a good many years).

Ask away, and prepared to find out far more than you ever bargained for. Only one thing we ask - enjoy yourself.

Welcome,

Merv

Tina, glad you overcame your rebuff from another site and joined this one. You'll likely never encounter a rebuff like that again here. Come on in, the water's safe.

Welcome to Stamporama, Tina!

I'm a newbie as well. You can always send me your "dumb" questions and I'll ask them. Actually, folks here are very friendly and extremely helpful. I'm glad you decided to give it another go!

Enjoy!

Welcome Happy

I'm a new stamp addict collector also, and appreciate all info that pops up here in the StampoRama community. And for info to be available, there needs to be someone asking questions! So don't be afraid to ask, it might be things that more people wants to know - but they don't know that they want to know it yet Nerd

re: Who remembers me?

Tina,
Why do people need to do that? There are a few that like to belittle and intimidate you. Maybe it makes them feel big. Anyway, I have never seen that here and I have asked some pretty dumb questions. I am still a member both places. Most people at both sites are very friendly and willing to help. This is by far the friendliest place. My ID at SCF is pjsstamps. It's true the dumbest question is the one you did not ask.

Tina, welcome! I can attest that seemingly stupid questions are fielded with polite replies here (sometimes playful puns and off topic replies, but hardly anything bitter or nasty).

Enjoy!

re: Who remembers me?

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, and I do believe this site will be much better because I at one time really enjoyed learning about stamps and most of the people from SCF were very nice and very informative and I know I shouldn't have let ANYBODY take what I enjoyed away but dang it I did and I want so bad to get back into doing stamps again because I have sooooo many stamps I don't know what to do with them all. I won't make the same mistake like I did before, I'm almost embarrassed to even tell everybody what I did but what the heck I will so maybe if some other newbie happens to read this they won't go n do what I have done,ok here goes I was a newbie at stamps and before I learned what I now know about them I had sold I'd say a few thousands dollars worth of my china stamps on eBay and got only I'd say 5% of what they were worth yes yes I know what a fool or sucker you could say I was BUT now that I have learned a few things n now have Scott catalogs that won't happen again lol so to all newbies find out what ya got before ya go n sell on eBay or where ever :-)Silly

re: Who remembers me?

I came late to stamp club joining but found a great wealth of knowledge via the internet, when I did.
I am a member of another online stamp club and the knowledge of its members is simply amazing BUT the caustic tongues (fingers) of some of the members leaves a great deal to be desired.
Seemingly one mans stupidity is another's knowledge but why pour vitriol when one only has to ignore rather than to comment?
Perhaps the motto for all of us should be *If you cannot say something (for the want of a better phrase) nice, say nothing*.

No similar problems here, Roger. We have over 2000 members, most of whom are really nice. We do have a few crotchety curmudgeons (but they like to yell at one another) and just one old grouch (but I'll be on my best behavior - promise).

re: Who remembers me?

Hi Tina;

I'm one of those "crotchety curmudgeons", as was mentioned above. I'm part Indian, and also Irish/German (Jackson/Knupenburger). They don't come any more stubborn and argumentative than do I. Most folks know enough to not take my rants too seriously.

If you happen on one of my tirades you may notice my frequent use of Rolling On The Floor Laughing and a feeble attempt at humor or satire. this is a clue that you should not take very much said with more than a grain of salt.

Seems the older you get the more opinionated one becomes!

Laughing on the inside....no one knows....

re: Who remembers me?

Roger, the tone here is helpful, not self-righteous nor self-important. We have many extremely knowlegeable folks, but they don't wear their erudition on their sleeves; instead they offer it as part of a philatelic smorgasbord from which all are invited to partake and add back.
