A Service Dog gives a person with a disability independence. Never approach, distract or pet a working dog, especially when (s)he is in harness. Never be afraid to ask questions to the handler (parent). 23 May 2014 06:22:35pm
I've never seen this one before and I cannot find it in Michel. Can anyone tell me what it is - either Michel, Scott or SG?

Similar, yes, but not the same stamp. Same print used in the Deutschland August 28th, 1997.

Oy Michael - I missed the cancellation date
Jacques - thanks, I only have the 2008/2009 Michel and my SG and Scott are the same dates so I'm stuck on the post-2009 issues. Thank you, thank you!

re: Help ID Deutsche Post
Well, all be! How did I miss that? Yes, that is the one! Michel 3345.
There are 4 series that were issued in 1990 under the name Deutsche Post.
This particular series of 9 issues, July 2nd.
August 28th, series of 4 issues.
September 18th, 2 issues.
October 2nd, 2 issues.
So here's my question there were two series posted during this time frame - July 24th and October 2nd, that are under the name DDR. Why did they use Deutsche Post in lieu of DDR or vice versa?

From Wikipedia: "With the reunification of Germany on 3 October 1990, the DP became part of the Deutsche Bundespost, which in turn later became the privatized Deutsche Post AG on 1 January 1995. As part of the reunification process, the DP's stamps became valid also for the FRG and West Berlin, beginning on 2 July 1990, and vice versa, until their eventual expiration. The dates regarding the expiration of the validity of GDR stamps were established as follows: for stamps Mi #1004-#3343, they were invalid as of 1 October 1990, while for Mi #3344-#3365, they were invalid as of 12 December 1991." The references given are pages 029 and 1238 of the Michel Deutschland Spezial 1997 catalogue.

re: Help ID Deutsche Post
Thanks Bob - never thought of looking on Wikipedia. LOL Seems my brain is in malfunction mode tonight.
So the Deutsche Post were privately printed? What about the two series in that time period that are still issued as DDR?

You may want to bookmark this link to online catalogs. I use the 1st on, Free Stamp, a lot to check out newer issues. You can search by topic, country, year and keyword. Your complete set is shown on page 59, the last page of Germany DDR.

That is a terrific site! I added it to our "Links" category. Fellow members please explore this site if you are not familiar with it

Thanks for adding it Bobby. I have used the 1st listing, The Free Stamp Catalog, a lot recently to assist me in some international trading. They do list a price for stamps/sets (the site is run by a major dealer in the Netherlands) so while not a 'true' catalog price, I use it as a good reference to current market price. I do like that they post pics of all stamps within a set. Mike in NC / meostamps
