This is my first posting on this site. I have several covers from the Division Of Dead Letters with a printed marking on them. One is a triangle and the other is a six piont star. I recall seeing an artile on the markings but failed to locate it in my library. Any help will be appreciated. I had trouble attaching a scan will try to add a scan in another post.

I really like this cover. I have not seen one like it before. I have not yet seen a resource for penalty envelopes (which would most likely be the area of philately that would deal with this item).
I just received in the mail today a group of articles from 1944 from the SPA journal written by Harry Konwiser. The markings indicated the inportence of the contents of the envelope.
The triangle was for ordinary correcpondence, the six poit star indicated negotiable contents. There is a large "S" thatindicates cash contents. There is also a circle marking that indicates minor importance.
