I inherited my mother's collection after she passed and it is intriguing so I thought I would look into it more and maybe do some collecting of my own. New to thie site and new to collecting in general. Have a number of albums that I have to go through as well as numerous stockbooks and loose stamps.....

Not into anything specific as such, but may change after I see what I have and what interests me most. Have already been approached by a few people here about trading...thanks to all. Very interested in that....Happy

Cheers

re: New here and new to collecting

Mike,
Great way to start the hobby, without any preconceived ideas about how to do what, when or where. You might start where your mother's collection was the strongest and see if that is what interests you, if so then you can expand on that one, if not check out some of the other countries. The great thing about stamp collecting is there are no rules or regulations on what or how you collect. You are able to turn her collection into your collection and proceed from there. The sky is the limit in collecting.

Good luck in your endeavor and you've picked a great place to find out a lot about stamp collecting. Welcome to SOR.

You honor your mother's memory by continuing in the hobby that she enjoyed. As CapeStampMan Mike points out, you can bring an entirely new approach and collecting interests to make it your own. Never forget that you are creating an heirloom to pass on if you so desire.
Wonderful to see, Mike. Enjoy, and welcome aboard.

Hello and Welcome Mike,
This is and can be a fascinating hobby. Be sure to check out the SOR Stamporama Link section. A lot of valuable information when trying to wade through the world of stamps.

Mike might I make a suggestion? Don't add to or change your Mother's collection. Keep it just the way it is for sentimental reasons. Start your own collection in your own albums. I have my first albums I and my parents worked on just as it was 50 years ago when I was a teenager and was just starting to collect. I wouldn't change it for anything because of the memories I have working on it with them. Welcome to SO.

I second what TinMan said about preserving the collection, if possible. I had a chance to do that with my father's collection (I was still very young at the time), but chose not to. Regret ever since.
