I'm curious: Has anyone ever seen or perhaps can post a cover from 1908 with any of the Washington Franklin definitives? I've never seen one. The earliest I've seen is 1909. Scott Catalog lists the first slew of them as 1908-1909.

Cool. First one I've ever seen!
Great find, I think, anyway. I don't think it's just been my personal philatelic karma; I think they are hard to find.

re: Washington Franklin Issue on Cover
Here is an interesting conundrum.
Assuming a reasonably large selection.
If you are looking for a particular date, especially during a particular year the odds of finding it randomly become phenomenally high.
But if you are merely examining all readable date stamps, the odds of finding something curious, interesting and possibly rare are rather good.
I think of it as a choice as to which end of a cornucopia you are working with, the wide and open end or the fine and restrictive end.
I used that example once when explaining to one of my sons about finding the right girl.
If you set a precise set of standards and conditions you may be fortunate but it may take half your life. If you open your eyes and search the field, the wide end of the horn, you may get the best surprise of your life.

Thanks for the EKU on the issue. That would certainly explain the paucity (okay I don't often get to use that word!) of this issue on cover, at least whenever I go through boxes of the Washington Franklins.
