Good morning SOR members,

It was a busy weekend for our articles section with three new articles posted.

From Steve Swain we have two additions:

Vulcanus Experimental Burn Cancellation - Describes another fascinating, short-lived experiment in preventing stamp reuse by burning a cancellation into the stamp.

American Civil War Adversity Covers - Explains how during the severe shortages of the American Civil War, southerners used everything from sheet music to wall paper to make envelopes.

From John Macco:

Pioneer-11 Saturn Encounter - A cover commemorating Pioneer-11, which in 1979 became the first planetary probe to encounter Saturn, acting as a pathfinder for the later Voyager expeditions.

Thanks to Steve and John for these great contributions!

Ralph

all three articles demonstrate that one needn't be long to be fascinating, engaging, and informative. Thanks Ralph for posting and Steve and John for penning and illustrating. And Steve you'll be proud that I am using the same screen space over to write my response as you used for your article. Aren't I clever and green?

Very interesting, all three. Thanks to the authors and to Ralph for pointing them out. Still trying to figure out how someone could burn 240 items in a minute.....Sally

Sally.

Yes, 240 items did sound like quite a bit of burning in only a minute! I checked two sources. One source even said that a non-skilled person could burn 100 in a minute. That's still rather quick. At any rate (no pun intended), the experiment was a failure.

For all 3 articles, the only word that covers it is 'enchanting'.
Kudo's to all.
In appreciation,
