I am a cover collector, so I always prefer stamps where they're supposed to be. Tis also provides an opportunity study the rates. They would be even more valuable IF the panes properly paid the going rate in period.

Unless I simply had to have the booklet to fill some set or topic I'd leave them as they are.

Brian, I agree with Jacques ... it's hard to find complete Centennial booklet panes on cover. I would also bid on them if I knew they were listed on SOR.

Brian could list them in the auction, but the rules won't let him post to tell you that he did that. (It would really be nice if we could change that rule...hmm?)

hmmmmmm...does the phrase "slippery slope" inspire a little trepidation here? I suppose it would be a good way to fill the board with lots of posts, though. Or, perhaps, we can just limit such posts to those for which there is a lot of "clamoring" and impose the interpretation of what is "clamored for" and what is just self promotion on the shoulders of the moderators?

it is a slippery slope, but in this way the lister is responding to a request. Whether it is better to make a private notice for what is now a public list, I don't know.
My intent has always been to keep the DB free from auction advertisements; this seems more along the lines of communiques in Make a Wish.
I suppose this could be abused, but I think the window is fairly narrowly defined.

How about a separate sub-topic under the "Sales, Swaps and Auction" general topic entitled "Items of Interest on the Auction Board" (or something similar)? We could allow unlimited self-promotion with the caveat that posting should be limited to items for which there has been interest demonstrated. Even if it is abused, the Board in general would not be flooded with posts, yet those who wanted to suggest items could do so, and those sellers responding could promote the items they have placed on the auction board in response.
Just a thought.

Member B - "I just listed XYZ in the auctions for you and anyone else interested."
Putting Member B (the seller) in a reply mode should prevent the "self-promotions" from getting out of hand.
Realize too that it was thought that the "Sales, Swaps and Auction" topic would also go crazy with self-promotion. Doesn't appear that that topic is being abused. I think it has been shown for the most part that the selling rules are being adhered to by the members. Just make sure that the new/expanded rules are made known. Compliance will follow.
..my goodness, people are being allowed to discuss "buying & selling" posting rules. I am surprised that my posting has not been deleted for suggesting that I might bid on something that a member might list!!
Wow!

German Booklet pane on cover. If I can figure out what watermark it is ????
The booklet pane is Germany Scott #737Ab (2013 value used $52.50), so it's the watermark that you're wishing for. The 1 pfg (Scott #737A) was only issued in booklet panes. Scott #737 was not issued in a booklet pane.
It always amazes me when I see booklet panes like that with all the different face-value stamps.

Indeed, Michael, and this particular pane is extremely nice on the presented cover. I do not generally collect covers, but had I this one, it would definitely be a keeper.

May 1972 from the Wedgewood Booklet, Postally used to Switzerland.
The lower right 1/2p turquoise is the relatively rare "single left band."

Nice cover. Especially like how it is carefully cancelled. Is this a special cover of philatelic origin or just the normal way they would be cancelled?

re: booklet panes postally used
From the minor wrinkles and the way it was torn open I believe it carried some kind of note.
Philatelic mail or a stiffener, I can;'t be sure.
It certainly does not look like it was preserved as a FDC would usually have been.
For those not into Machins, the ha'penny stamps were to have two phosphor bars, one along the left and one along the right edge. The 2½ penny should have one bar along the left edge.
But someone missed the plan and only one single left bar was continued along the left side of the right column. So the three on the right have two bars and the three on the left have but on making the lower right ½p a different variety and because of scarcity more expensive to acquire either mint or used. On cover, postally used during the proper time period hen it was issued and to a foreign address ? Who knows ? It is probably not unique, but like the Liffey Bridge, it just might be one of a kind.

Ooooh ooooh, Charlie, I have two of those with the whole pane and as FDC, the left band one is the bottom right of the pair. Not that they probably ever went through the post!
Am I rich now? Not ever in this lifetime, now where is my lottery ticket.
