They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. -Benjamin Franklin

Those darn shades! Usually the only difficulty I have with this type stamp is the difference between the wartime and pre war printings, but this one has me stumped. It appears to be an ordinary Scott 119, but the color is way off. It doesn't appear to be faded or oxidized, but rather a different color altogether. Perhaps there is a listing in Michel? Any help will be appreciated.

I get confused with the shades too, but this looks a lot like it had been subjected to bleach at some point. In the larger image there appears to be areas washed out or blurred. This many time occurs with contact to bleach which makes the colors run. Just a guess.

It seems to me that the orange one below is clearly Michel #141 and the red one above is Michel #86. The two in the middle are colour varieties of #141, I would say.

That is correct the orange one is Michel 141, there are no variety's listed in Michel specialized it just says yellow orange to red orange

There is also a difference between no watermark (Mi. 71) and watermarked (Mi. 86). Michel 86 comes in two types: peace print and war print. The war print is not that clear and is on paper of lesser quality.
Colours vary on all three types. In German: rotkarmin bis rötlichkarmin / (dunkel)karminrot bis magenta. (carmine red to magenta)
