My name is David Giles. I am 48 years old and have collected stamps since childhood.
I have been hanging around the StampOffers/Wensy Board for a number of years, but I was encouraged to return here.
Briefly, I collect:
- King George VI Reign of the British Commonwealth (1937-1952)
- Costa Rica
- United States (with emphasis on the air postal history of Texas, TX & NY precancels, the Americana Definitive Series, and U.S. Airmail)
- Netherlands Indies/Indonesia
- postal history of North Bay, Ontario (my hometown)
- a few topicals
I am a member of the APS (my 9th year) and the ATA. I am a Past-President of the Ottawa Philatelic Society, and a member of the Board-of-Directors of the Society of Costa Rica Collectors. I am also the Secretary of the ORAPEX Committee, (Canada's largest, annual national-level stamp show).
Professionally, I am the Store Manager of Ian Kimmerly Stamps (62 Sparks St., Ottawa) and an auctioneer for Sparks Auctions in Ottawa.
I look forward to exchanging information and stamps/covers/postcards and contributing to this chat board.
Cheers!
David

Great to see that I took my suggestion and have decided to become more active here. I am sure that there are several members whose collecting interests touch yours. Now let's be truthful, 'a few topicals' I count over 10 different ones and that is only the ones you have mentioned to me over the past year or so, HEHEHE. Plate number singles, marginal markings, Mr Zip slevage are just a couple that come to mind.
It is good to see you and hope you enjoy the discussion area.
Hi David, and welcome to Stamporama. While I have never made a purchase, I am very familiar with Ian Kimmerly Stamps through my browsings. I collect the new issues of Costa Rica. They have all the attributes that many collectors complain are lacking from so many other modern postal services: low number of stamp issues each year, low print quantities, nice designs that are relevant to the country, and low face values that make collecting them all very affordable (but I'm preaching to the choir, now).
Anyway, looking forward to your participation, here.
I collect ALL of Costa Rica... used stamps to the present, postal history, revenues, and postcards. I have a heck-of-a-time getting post-2000 used issues.
Are you a member of SOCORICO?
Do you collect Costa Rica mint or used or both?
Cheers!
David

re: Returning Member From Ottawa, Ont. CANADA
Hi DavidG,
I collect Costa Rica as well for the reasons given by youpiao. Don't really have a specialized or postal history interest, but maintain a simple plain collection of used stamps by catalog.
While I don't actively seek out older material, I am interested in it and will pick up these issues as I come across them. I haven't joined SOCORICO (yet). I've joined various societies over the years for countries in which I had a more-then-passing interest, but always found the articles in the journals too specialized and esoteric to help me with my more "mundane" general interests.
