Hi
Even when you think you know, something new comes up .I have started to collect New Guinea from the German occupation, right up to 2011 .
I found out yesterday that there are 4 printings of 1914 Deutsch Nueguinea 5 mark Yacht stamp and they vary in price from around $30-00 to $900-00 so you really need to know how to tell them apart.Knowledge is power.

I remember that some of the Kaiser's yacht issues were no Watermark and others had the Lozenge watermark.

The watermark has an axis that could be East-West or North-South.
I'm sure Michel has all the details.

The lozenge watermark as pictured in the post above is "East-West", or as we would call it, sideways. "North-South" would be the normal orientation.

I did not see anything in Michel to indicate that the colonial stamps are found with sideways watermark.

The stamps were issued twice. The first set was on unwatermarked paper. The second had the watermark, but the second set generally didn't have nearly as many stamps in the set as the first issue.

They make a beautiful set when complete. On a trip several years ago to the National Postal Museum they had all of them from each colony out on display. Very nice to see.

Hi
The information I have been able to obtain. This is using Scott's 2008 World catalogue shows two printings 1901 were they say, according to the design # A4 the 5 mark has a hyphen between Neu & Guinea and the 1914 issue does not and is A6 .
Gibbons SOTW doesn't even list the unissued 1914 set.
I then came across this interesting piece ,it may look a little odd as I had to copy the images on to one page.

Gibbons Stamps of the World Catalogs only lists face different stamps.
