re: What did you buy yourself for Christmas?
I am thinking of ordering some books from the History Book Club, among which will be, a copy of William Manchester book, vol ll, "The Last Lion."
I will wrap it up and slip it over to one of the younger kids as if it was from them.
I'v done that before.

For North Pole Headquarters:
REINDEER ALERT - Kris Kringle can fly over my chimney without stopping.
At a stamp auction last month I had the winning bid ($17.00) for a used (VF) copy of the "Encyclopaedia of World Stamps 1945-1975", by James A MacKay, published in 1976.
Wanted this coffee-table sized reference because of its superb photographs in full colour of thousands of stamps. An unexpected bonus, the text surpasses the images in quality; author MacKay has forgotten more than I will ever know about postage stamps. He must have been a former editor of a newsmagazine for no words are wasted, and every sentence spare, articulate and fact-filled. I'm an out-of-the-closet newspaper/magazine/book junkie and this is the best Christmas present I ever gave myself.

P.S. I've set out a bowl of humbugs in case any Stamporama members drop in during the Yuletide.

Yes Roy, you certainly were! If you ever feel the itch to send those to a new home - I just live a bit down the road
Beautiful pair you picked up there! The margins and postmark - WOW!!!!

Think of it this way, Michael, medical problems are a sure indicator you are still among us.

My wife and I usually take a Christmas/New Years cruise, but this year we are buying ourselve a new Armstrong wooden floor for the kitchen and family room. (I might still sneak out and buy some stamps, but don't mention that to her.)

My wife and I bought a couple dozen chickens, a beehive, a pair of milking goats and six pigs but no partridges or pear trees. Every year instead of buying something at Christmas that we probably don't need we donate to Heifer International.

My 2012 Durland Catalog has paid off already. While going through Plate Blocks, I found I had 3 Scott 1592 (10c Americana) Plate Blocks of Plate 37246 with Dull Gum. This Plate with Dull Gum is valued at $100. All the other plates are valued at $1. It was not even listed in my 1997-1998 Catalog.
