I have this cancel on many stamps. I must be googling the wrong things because I can't find it. Can someone tell me what it is and why it's used? I believe I have it will different numbers as well but I would have to check. I apologize if the photo is blurry.

That's the "killer" portion of a duplex cancel. It's called a "duplex" because it has two parts in one hammer -- the town dater portion, and the killer. The number in the killer identifies a particular hammer or clerk's station. Here are a couple of complete examples:
