As some of you know from elsewhere I'm starting to comb through my late stepdad's accumulation of early US.
This 3c rose came off some home made pages penciled in German; my stepdad lived in Europe, so many of his stamps were bought there.
Without a doubt, it has a grill.
To the best of my ability, I count 15 points ACROSS (clearest around the middle) by 18 points (maybe 17?) up and down. Because the grill is faint in places, my "best guess" at measuring suggests 11.8mm across by about 15mm top to bottom.
The gum doesn't look original to me, but I really don't know early US gum.
Of course, I have no idea how much can be determined from photos... but I know some of you are experts on these.
Three photos: the front, the back (unadjusted), the back again (color and contrast enhanced for maximum sharpness).
