My Gt Grandfather was a stamp collector also my grandfather and father. All these stamps have been passed to me as I am the last breathing of our clan
I have looked through the albums but had absolutely no idea how learned one must be to understand the vicissitudes pertaining to this amazing hobby. Without the knowledge of those on this website I doubt many of us would know anything more than a novice. However I am willing to learn and once I have found a gauge (lockdown disallows at present) it will be a boon to measuring. The nicest stamp and oldest my Gt Grandfather collected was a George Washington dated 1861 on extremely thin paper. One must handle it with such care. I will put President Washington on this site as of all the stamps it is my very favourite. Unsure if he is worth anything but it would be nice if he was. Once again best wishes to the organisers of this website plus all folk who meander through the pages. Hats off to intelligent philatelists. Thank you.
HOW ODD - WHEN I PUT THE GEORGE WASHINGTON STAMP AWAY THIS ONE WAS BENEATH IT.
Dear I09T09N46,
Do you have a stamp catalog? It would be helpful in identifying what you have and some idea of value. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. There's a lot of very knowledgeable folks here ready and available to help.
Best,
Dan C.
dani20 thank you. No I have no catalogue. I know there are Stanley Gibbons and Scott but I lam unable to access anything at the moment due to being confined to barracks since March last year. We may not travel more than 5k's which is a bind but nothing to be done. I appreciate the help I have been given. So much. Thank you. N
