Against my better judgement, I replied to a comment on an online board that I occasionally view.
It was a particularly nasty comment by a particularly nasty individual who just happens to be a moderator on that forum. My response was not particularly harsh and I even tried to temper it with a bit of humour.
At the worst, I expected that my response may have been removed or that I could receive a ban, but nothing prepared me for what actually happened.
Instead, what the moderator did was to edit my posting, removing everything but a single short paragraph, which when taken out of context would seem to support this person's obnoxious point of view.
To make matters worse there is no indication that my posting had been moderated tampered with, so, anyone coming across my posting would think that it is what I wrote and what I believe.
I posted a response asking that he either delete the posting completely or restore it, but he just deleted the response. I reported my own posting requesting that it be removed, but this he just ignored, A follow-up posting got deleted once again and also saw me receive a three-week ban.
I really don't care about the ban, but what I do care about is that a posting on that board in my name supports a view that I abhor and there is nothing I can do about it.

Clive, are you able to contact the board owner or is that one and the same person?
If not maybe contact the Philatelic board for the country of ownership and explain, with copy emails, exactly what occurred.
An alternative would be to name the board and moderator so that he may be publicly shamed. Perhaps someone else here has a better idea.
Sorry that this has happened, sometimes it is better to just walk away.
when another turns your comments into a fiction, and lies about the process (via the absence of an explanation), that other can never be trusted with our words, ever again.
you have encountered a reprobate doing unprincipled things; to expect better is a fool's dream.
Why this person remains with any people on his DB is a mystery to me.

re: Moderator ethics
"I would love to name and shame, but I am pretty sure that it would probably contravene the rules here."
Not sure why it would? (my opinion, not management's). But we have criticized other sites including Ebay, Hipstamp and others so why would a comment about another philatelic site be against the rules. And management has be so tolerant here of criticism (I know, and I have surely been at fault).
It is not about religion or politics, so?

re: Moderator ethics
Since we now know which board that discusses stamps we are describing, my suggestion is that you edit your profile. You can insert a slogan that will display on every post. You could try adding something like "My posts were edited without my permission" to your profile.
You will probably be banned for life - but who cares. At least you will get your point across.

kgvistamps,
An excellent idea, and one I will put into action as soon as my current ban expires, as for being banned for life, I really don't care, after updating my signature I want nothing further to do with that forum.
Thanks,
Clive

I was so disgusted by the lack of ethics on that forum that I decided to quit collecting Australia stamps. I couldn't look at them without remembering the vicious personal attacks made by the monster azzhat bully that runs that cesspit board.

I must admit that every time I catch myself having uncharitable thoughts towards Australians as a result of the behaviour of this particular individual and his fans, I have to remind myself that he is not representative of the whole country and that most are decent people who should not be judged by these few rotten apples.
In fact, my brother and most of my first cousins are Australian.
Ironically, my post that he edited, was in response to one of his frequent anti-American rants in which I tried to point out that the majority of Americans, like Australians and everyone else, are decent folk who just want to go about their daily lives, and one should not base one's opinion of a country on a few rotten apples.
Unfortunately, the impression that is left after he deleted most of what I wrote, leaving a single sentence out of context, is that I concur with his nasty point of view - which is actually completely the opposite of what I intended.

Yes there were no "Welcome Newcomer" there...what bothered me was how they tried to outdo one another showing how knowledgeable they were. Let him be forgotten !

Wow, I just looked at a random post from a member there asking a question about stampless covers. Within ten minutes, the self-appointed "sheriff" had absolutely BURIED this guy for not having a "descriptive enough" subject line, changed that subject line to something he felt was more "descriptive", and generally railed about how awesome their site was... but did nothing to answer the man's question.
When a newbie member actually took the time to actually answer the question, he was criticized by another long-time member for his reply (his first post to the board) NOT having been an introduction in their "welcome" area...
So glad to be a member HERE, where even if we disagree, nobody makes you feel like you're an intruder... and where the moderators and longtime members are HELPFUL to the newbs.
Maybe he hates the US because here in 'merica "Sheriff" is an elected position..... one he wouldn't likely keep with his attitude!
I know some people actually thrive on conflict; but is that site so useful that folks are willing to put up with abuse that has been consistently described as such for years. Love for a fan of the site to explain its appeal.

Got to love it though when he makes a mistake (and he does) no one says a dickie bird .He craps on about using spellchecker then doesn't use it himself.
