Well, at least I got to have a haircut in the Penny Lane barber shop. 22 Oct 2020 10:16:21pm
I've got an irritating empty spot on my first GB Machin page, MH4 Type II maroon 2d. I've searched APS StampStore, Stamporama auctions and eBay. Any suggestions on sellers, maybe in the UK, that you have dealt in Machins with?
Usually the bands show up in daylight or lamp, if you hold the stamp at an angle to the light source, you can see a non reflective (dull)band.
They also show up with ultraviolet light (254nm) it activates the phosphor.
Edit to add the following.
Here is a link to the relevant section on the Adminware site I mentioned above. https://adminware.ca/machin/m_tech.htm#Phosphor

re: Machin Sellers?
Just when you began to feel you were becoming a Machin Maven,
bingo, there is a whole new world of variations just awaiting
their chance to chain you to a magnifying glass.
Good Luck with the phosphor bars and bands.

re: Machin Sellers?
Thanks, CDJ.
I don't think I'll get THAT maven-y. Luckily my album pages aren't real fussy either, with the exception of that one early denarius stamp.
The Postal Museum in London has a nice display of Machin artifacts, which we were lucky enough to visit in 2017. During the pandemic, its website has a virtual tour of the place: postalmuseum.org .
When I was looking at varieties, you could see how scope grows. It seemed a new variety (paper, pcp vs acp, screening, etc) added about 10 to 20 issues but when you multiply by format (sheet, booklet, coil) it explodes.
