Well, at least I got to have a haircut in the Penny Lane barber shop.

I've got an irritating empty spot on my first GB Machin page, MH4 Type II maroon 2d. I've searched APS StampStore, Stamporama auctions and eBay. Any suggestions on sellers, maybe in the UK, that you have dealt in Machins with?

re: Machin Sellers?

The SG Concise has two issues for the Scott MH4. Scott ignores tagging bands. If you search hipstamp using SG number you will find them.

SG 727 - 2B
SG 728 - CB

I do not have a spare but I need 728.

Are you wanting mint or used?

The position of the 2 is shown as different in my 2003 Scott catalog.

I'd like a mint or at least uncancelled -- I'm not a gum-o-maniac -- like the other 20 on that page. A lightly cancelled example would be OK too.

Here is a scan of two copies, used -- one each of Type I and Type II. Both are two-bar tagged.

The Type II is used (no gum) but appears uncancelled.

If you have interest in either, send me a message.

Thanks, JT.

I'll wait to see what the Hipstamp purchases I made look like. Send me a message on your price, please.

Sheepshanks,

Are those bands visible under black light or just plain daylight?

Usually the bands show up in daylight or lamp, if you hold the stamp at an angle to the light source, you can see a non reflective (dull)band.
They also show up with ultraviolet light (254nm) it activates the phosphor.
Edit to add the following.
Here is a link to the relevant section on the Adminware site I mentioned above.

Thanks again, SS. I've noticed the bands before but didn't know much about them.

Just when you began to feel you were becoming a Machin Maven,
bingo, there is a whole new world of variations just awaiting
their chance to chain you to a magnifying glass.
Good Luck with the phosphor bars and bands.

Thanks, CDJ.

I don't think I'll get THAT maven-y. Luckily my album pages aren't real fussy either, with the exception of that one early denarius stamp.

The Postal Museum in London has a nice display of Machin artifacts, which we were lucky enough to visit in 2017. During the pandemic, its website has a virtual tour of the place: postalmuseum.org .

When I was looking at varieties, you could see how scope grows. It seemed a new variety (paper, pcp vs acp, screening, etc) added about 10 to 20 issues but when you multiply by format (sheet, booklet, coil) it explodes.
