Aniline Rose or badly faded stamp? Any ideas?

Probably badly faded/watered down as the perforations should be white not the dirty colour in the picture.

Looks washed out to me. Could you rescan but with a black background and with a "normal" example adjacent. The white background seems to glare.

That is much better, thanks.
When seen alongside another it definitely looks as though the colour has been washed out. It is a problem with the used stamps of this era as they used a fugitive ink.
The aniline stamps of this value were printed by Harrison, perf 14 and come with watermark upright and inverted.
First known use was 3rd May 1911, yours is dated 1905 so is extremely unlikely to be aniline.

Sheepshanks,

Thank you for the assistance. It most likely is a badly faded stamp as Brechinite indicated and as I originally thought.

Will keep in my odd ball collection.

Mel

As an aside there is currently a listing on feebay that shows this stamp but again the date of use is too early.
