Hi, I'm from Indonesia and I'm new to collecting stamps. But I do really enjoy this new hobby of mine.
So lately I've been wanting to make stamp album that I designed myself. But the problem is, it is very hard to get philately equipments here in my country, including stamp mounts.
So in order to attach the stamp to the paper, I'm thinking of using plastic stamp sleeves instead, then double tape it to the paper.
I think this will be very cheap.
I need advice is there demerit to this idea before I put my valuable stamps this way?
@harvey I was thinking of getting some mounts from ebay, but I believe it will take a while to arrive since the corona begin it's getting longer for shipment from other country to arrive. Hence the idea came.
Why is it not recommended to use tape since the one which will be glued to the paper is the sleeve? is it because the adhesive formula which different from the one used by hawid?
@michael : I am going to use archival photo paper, I believe it is acid free. I don't know if it's true but at least they said that it will last me a life time.
Harvey I think, therefore I am - I think! 10 Oct 2020 08:49:25am
re: Using sleeves for stamp album
Maybe newer tape is better, but I have had bad experiences with tape staining the album page over time, even going right through the page. I avoid tape completely, but again, maybe tape is better now.
Please do not use tape - tape stains over time and will eventually destroy the paper, the mount and the stamp. Even the so called safe tape can leave damaging residues under certain conditions,,,,
I do not know if you can buy black of white mounts for your stamps overthere?
They do have a gom layer on the back so you can easily mount them an paper.
Here an example:
