When I received it, however, I noted it right away. There are numerous plate faults on the Bermuda Key Plates, so I check the literature to learn what I had. Unfortunately I could not find this particular error among the others. I assume therefore that the bald spot was caused by a bit of fluff or other debris on the plate at the time of printing.
Any thoughts?

Lovely variery, Sailor.
You will notice this is a revenue usage. That is because the 12/6 was issued to pay a landing fee from your ship to Bermuda. Sort of like an aeroport fee you pay to-day, that is part of your ticket. I had one in my KGVI (used) collection that had a lovely Crown and "H.M. Customs" cancel.
