i was playing with a large plastic bag of unused DDR and this block of 4 caught my attention. Its from 1962 and catalogs $13.00. I would have tried to sell it..but the space in my album is empty..so in it goes !
Hi Dave, thanks..amazing how at times we do not expect much of anything it shows up. My block is hinged on the top two stamps...but its a gift as far as i am concerned.
You sort (whiff) and sort some more (duck-hook into the trees)...rinse and repeat...and elevate your blood pressure.
Then one day, just when you want to quit collecting some area and give your stamps away (toss your clubs into the lake) you make a lovely surprise find like this (chip in for a birdie).
Then you get sucked into it all over again, until next time...
At the time when these stamps were issued (before 1964 and before my time), GDR commemoratives were only valid for a comparatively short time after issue (up to about 2 years). It is possible that unused remainders were then added to the stamp packages that were sold abroad. Still, it's a nice find, even if it is not perfect.
Silence in the face of adversity is the father of complicity and collusion, the first cousins of conspiracy.. 04 Oct 2020 03:08:12am

Of course, where else would it be hinged?
