I was going through some of my duplicate Machins and came up with an oddity. At least I think it is odd. The security code is MT1L. Above the security code appears to be a repeat of the security code but only the 'MT' is visible. Probably a counterfeit??

Any one else experience one of these?

Any chance you can post a photo of this that picks up the coding you have described? It would be interesting to see.

On all the security Machins the letters above the source code is the repeat of the the letters MA, part of the repeated word MAIL that appears in the background all over the stamp. This is in the top right corner.
Are you sure that yours says MT?

I double checked the stamp and then looked at several copies of the same stamp. The letters above the security code should be 'MA' but mine shows 'MT'. Right at this time I am unable to scan the stamp. As soon as I am able to scan the stamp I will post it on this thread.

Here is a not very good example of a copy of this one. You can only see part of the A above the MTIL.

re: 1st red Machin M14L

Several times late at night I thought I found some very
interesting variation of the security codes or some other
significant "tells." Upon re-examining the stamp the next
morning, or a few days later, I would look at my notes and
then at the stamp and wonder what I was thinking. That has
happened more often as my vision has been faltering.
In the enlarged scan shown, the "MTIL" is there, but I can't
see a second "MT" despite the enlargement.
You will have to rely on some member with sharper vision for
a definitive answer.

Charlie the scan is of one of my stamps, not the op's. We are awaiting that with baited breath. The images that Phos put up are not clear enough to see the background printing but I think they refer to a forgery. Not able to find anything specific but the Norvic website does illustrate a few just not the particular one in question.

You do not know how much better that makes me feel.
Maybe a little silly, but still better over all.
