I have hard time to soak stamps from the Netherland, especially between WWI and 1950s. The paper stays on the back, the stamp keeps part of its glu. Does someone know a safe method to get them clean, neat, an undamaged?
I do not recognize this problem and I have soaked a lot of Dutch stamps. Do you have it with all stamps from this period? Otherwise it could be that you have uncancelled used stamps that have been glued on the envelope. Something that one can come across more often.
It could be the soaking method. I always soak stamps in very hot water, and they always come off the paper.
Thanks Jan-Simon, it comes mainly with the Julianas and the Number ones. I have a similar problem with some Spanish stamps from the same period. Did the Spaniards of that time subcontract to the Dutch or the other way, or maybe Asko-Nobel made a strong glue ? Anyway, I'll try with hot water. Michel
