do any of you ever write a long response to a post and then say ... ah well I just can't be bothered to deal with the responses ... delete... have a nice day/// I just don;t have the resilience of early political days anymore. I guess there is much truth in the notion that you move to the right as you get older whatever your original position was if merely by default...perhaps I should not think so much

"Euros think a 100 miles is a long way, Americans think a 100 yrs is a long time..."
Original positions when we are young often come from influence and peer pressure. When we get older, our positions change because we have gained experience and knowledge and see things from that perspective.
Or when we are young we are more altruistic, but as we get older we become more selfish and worry about losing what we have. Maybe towards the end we return to our younger views, but I'm not sure.

One might argue that our positions as we age are just as (if not more so) reliant upon influence and peer pressure as our younger selves - perhaps even more so, since our experience and knowledge have often been shaped by many more years of influence and pressure.
""It occurs to me now that, as adults, people have to get along with spouses, neighbors, bosses, clients.
But, once we age out of the work force, all that drops away, and you get to see who we were as kids.""
There's certainly some truth to this - my long suppressed 12 year old has certainly bought more than his fair share of model kits and stamps over 6 months since I hung up the chalk.
I certainly no longer have to deal with bosses, co-workers and 'clients' (read: 16-18 year olds), but my spouse isn't letting me 'age out' at home!
