I took a chance at a 5 & dime store - they had a packet with two old French covers for $5.99, the cancel struck my interest, plus it turned out cover contains contents, my French is not good, but appeared to be a Baptismal document. My questions are:
1. Does the ALGER cancel mean French stamps used in Algeria?
2. I probably got $5.99 enjoyment just by looking, but was this worth the $5.99 or a common thing?

Yes.
"2. I probably got $5.99 enjoyment just by looking, but was this worth the $5.99 or a common thing?"
Glad you got the enjoyment out of it. I would not hesitate before putting it into BuckaCover inventory with an initial price of $1.50 (prices drop as items remain available).

I am a collector of colonial Africa and would value that cover, if intact well above a $1.50 common. I actively search France accumulations for similar uses.
