Not a stupid driver. The stupid drivers do not get out of their cars.
Smart cops. They cleared the area when the train was coming.
I am surprised that the train managed to slow to stop in that short distance; if I had the video in an appropriate format, I'd measure the speed of the train as it entered the intersection, and the distance in which it stopped, and shake my head ... after I checked that none of the frames had been deleted to speed the action.

A friend and I watched one driver turn onto dedicated streetcar tracks and continue driving for quite a distance - I think he didn't know what to do and so decided to continue driving until he could get off (which wasn't going to happen).

I was wondering the same thing about the speed of slow down. I grew up in a railway town, and the engineers will tell you it takes at LEAST a kilometer of braking space to bring a fully loaded transcontinental freight to a halt.
The cops were also smart enough to move everyone away in the direction the train was coming from. Any debris would fly in the direction of movement.
