re: Where you grew up
Ian, how lucky you and I were to have known about the Corries. Your choice of The Portree Kid was inspired. My wife and I saw them quite a few times, mainly in the Albert Halls in Stirling. They both knew how to handle an audience as is clearly shown in the tape. I can often be heard singing loads of their songs, and my daughter, now 32, also loves their music. By the age of 5, her party piece was "The Rose of Allandale" which she will still sing to this day. I am so sad Roy was taken from us.
My wife and daughter have become fans of a tribute act "The Sorries". They have seen them a couple of times a year for several years. Margaret and I saw them around 4 months ago in Dunfermline. I thought they were okay, but they'll never be as good as the originals.
Well done. You've given me a taste. I'm off to listen to "Peggy Gordon" now.
Must be Caledonian week ... enjoying these links immensely and I’m binge watching Hamish Macbeth. Thanks for these!!

Well I posted Harry Hibbs somewhat tongue in cheek - here are a couple of more polished efforts from Pam and Anita from the 80's and the incomparable Emile Benoit. I used to occasionally see these and other talented folks performing in various pubs and the odd folk festival at no more cost than the price of the fish and chips.

Where did I grow up? I was an army brat so I lived in many different places. Several US states, both on Army Posts and in towns. I lived in Turkey and Germany. Visited lots of places, really didn't belong anywhere!
