I have what I believe is Azerbaijan 1-29 but in the Scott catalog listing it states counterfeits catalog more than originals if I am reading the listing right. How does one differentiate between the two? I might add I had an glassine with Azerbaijan on it and cannot remember who I got it from. I do not believe I have originals. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

re: Azerbaijan Scott#1-29

There were two official printings of that issue:

- First printing = white paper (1919)
- Second printing = poor quality brownish paper by Soviet government (1921)

Forgeries are on off-white to light tan paper

Differences in design to tell forgeries from genuine are detailed in "Focus On Forgeries" by Varro Tyler, and "Forgeries of Common Stamps After World War I" by P. Clark Souers.
