I just received the stamp on the right today. It is Scott No. 292 from Peru. It is completely reversed and the only explanation I can think of is that it is a contact transfer from the previous sheet. However I don't think I have ever seen a sharper cleaner transfer. This makes me wonder if it is a known freak produced in some other way.

re: Peru 292 contact transfer
Dave,
"I can't imagine such a perfect transfer" I can't either and there lies my confusion.
The stamp was printing via the Lithograph method and if I better new the process, perhaps I could make sense of how it was produced. However it was done, it is not common as I have not seen a better one, ever! Since it would seem to be a major error or freak how come we do not see more of them?
There must be some people here that could explain how this could have happened, although I don't know if they could explain why it is not more common.

re: Peru 292 contact transfer
Phil, Peru is one of my top favorite countries to collect. I have a lot of duplicates and would be happy to send you a bunch for your collection if you like. Send me your address if interested.
