I have an APO cover (649) that was sent from a private in England to someone else in England. On the back is this receiving cancel that reads IBPO. If I were to assume BPO is British Post office, what is the "I" for. I was going to guess inland as it stayed within the British Empire, but that is a just a guess. Does anyone know?

The backstamp is for the 1st Base Post Office (BPO) of the US Army Postal Service. BPOs were typically a permanent location servicing many different army units while APOs were for a single unit and were mobile.
