Does anyone have a comprehensive listing of RPOs and HPOs? I'm interested in adding the New Jersey ones to my database.
I just bought this card, "NY and Barnegat RPO" addressed to Barnegat, NJ. The card is from Asbury Park. I know the rail line went through Asbury Park, still does.
And some irony, board member Mel Bohannon sent me some neat NJ items he had and one of those was this photo of the Barnegat train station, no doubt where my card was received!
And here's another from my collection "Greycourt and Belv RPO", which I figure is Belvidere, NJ since that's the origin of the postcard on the reverse side. I have no idea where Greycourt is!

re: RPO and HPO Listings??
I have published a new, free Highway Post office catalog as an online database and as downloadable PDF files. These include all Highway Post Office routes and trips and utilizes the new chronological Mobile Post Office numbering system with enhancements so that every trip cover in both directions receives a unique catalog number. This allows collectors to exchange and communicate the specific covers/cancels without missteps. The original route numbers are also presented to assist collectors who may already be familiar with the older designations. The online catalog also supports search feature, filtering capabilities, route maps, and many additional details. The catalog has over 5600 images of cancels, covers and route maps.
I hope that this new resource will encourage people to explore this interesting part of US postal history technology. Please let me know if anyone has any questions, corrections, or feedback. Please note that I am still developing some of the supporting pages (like the Vehicles page) but the HPO catalog (both the online version and the downloadable versions) and the Checklists are complete.

re: RPO and HPO Listings??
Hi Tom,
If you use the online database, you can filter by state http://stampsmarter.com/Learning/HPOView.html
I think you will find 4 NJ routes; 21 - Wanaque and Newark, 22 - Middletown and Newark, 22A - Goshen and Newark, 115 - Hancock and Newark
Don
Thanks Don!
I will have to look for Hancock and Newark! Those were pretty short lived routes, and no wonder I never saw one on the highway, it was over before I was born!
