Thank you very much.
My stamps are type II (vertical lines on balcony)and 6 or ?? 7 stairs.
The watermark is (I think) the third.In the first stamp the letter D it's up and down,but
lines up from left to right.What is the code for the four types of watermarks?
Whether the D & P's are horizontal or vertical is easy, so look to the dashes - are they inclined left or right
In both stamps the letters are horizontal and the dashes point to the right - so #3 for both
My catalog is Michel Germany Specialized so no relationship to Scott #'s and it is very complicated - here is the listing just for the 1 DM
ALL the German stamps of that 1945-50 period especially the overprints are very complicated and most of the overprints sold are FAKES
Thank you again,think I could identify the 2 stamps.
Michel is complicated but also logical. According to Scott, the first stamp is sideways (but the "D" is up and down too). Michel is clearer with the specification of the direction of the lines.
What are B, D, G, O, ...? and L11: 11: 11: 11 1/2 (3 sides with L11 and one with L11 1/2? ... and which side is the first? clockwise or anti clockwise?)
My stamps have L11 perforation are Type II the color is "dunkel smaragdgrun" and the Michel no.is #97bIIYB.(I don't know yet what is "B")

re: German watermarks.
My understanding is
B=L 11 which is line perf 11.
B D G O P T are all different perforations.
dunkel smaragdgrun is dark emerald-green

Yes I understand that L11=line perforation 11 on top/bottom/left/ right sides of stamp.
My question was for perforation de type P: gez. L11; 11; 11; 11 1/2.
When there are more than three perforation differences, Michel explains as follows.
Looking at the front side of the stamp. First the top then the right side, the bottom and last the left side are measured. In my Michel 2013 it is under the heading "Zähnungszahl" on page 16.
Watermarks: The WM are not that complicated. Do not concentrate on letters. Look at the broken lines. Are they falling (top left to bottom right) or are they rising (Bottom left to top right). After determining the lines simply see if the letters are standing or laying.
Thank you opa.For watermark it is a easy way what you write (the Scott is confusing).
I have a stamps "Political,science and art personalities" of 1948(soviet Zone) and 1953 (DDR).I don't see very well (it's normal?)the watermarks and I tried to identificate them with the difference of gum and papier.But I don't know german and I have some questions:
1.This is "borkengummierung"? (only for Soviet zone?)
2.What it is and how it looks the "gestrichenes" and "gewohnliches" papier?

re: German watermarks.
gestrichenes = coated paper
gewohnliches = ordinary paper
borkengummierung = this is an educated guess - Broken gum - perhaps rippled gum

Borke in German translates to Tree bark. So the gum looks a little like that.
Due to the high viscosity of the gum, streaks occurred. If these uncovered areas make up more than 50% of the area, they are called Borkengummierung "bark gum".
Explanation: The high viscosity of the gum caused streaks to form, especially on the outer edges of the printed sheets. If these areas not covered by gum make up more than 50% of the area, they are called "bark gum". It is available vertically and horizontally (y or z).
Hope that this translation/explanation is clear.
Michel Nr. 212ay, alle 4 Marken sind vollfläching mit senkrechtem Borkengummi bedeckt. (Kreuzkammzähnung, senkrechte Papierstruktur)
