While working on Bergedorf I took out the private post issues ( no forgeries known)
Some of these issues are quite interesting so I thought I might post a few private German locals

re: Germany - Private Posts
Just curious about the catalog symbols used. I was going to make suggestions, but the only one I was really sure about was the last one for cover. I am not really familiar with the symbols used even though I assume the second two are used and mint, but according to the site I found on line the fist one should mean "hinged with original gum", but am not sure whether it implies with, or without, a post mark.
Michel has over 100 symbols/abbreviations to describe the type, colour and condition
The main ones are:
* = unused with original gum (hinged)
** = unused with original gum (mint never hinged)
(*) = unused without gum or with partial gum
circle with dot = used with postmark
circle with x = fiscal use
circle with oblique lines = CTO
envelope symbol = stamp on any type of cover, postcard etc
square symbol with unbroken lines or U = imperforate
square with letters FALSCH = forgery to fool collectors
ND = Official reprint
Neudr. = private reprint
Nachdr. = unofficial reprint - essentially a forgery
gez = gezähnt - perforated followed by dimensions
