General Philatelic/Gen. Discussion : Event Covers ... for events that folks did not even know were events
Author Postings ikeyPikey 22 Jun 2019 03:03:14pm'
Event covers have been created for all manner of events:
Philatelic ... club meetings, exhibitions, the works
Hobbies ... covers issued by our brethren coin collectors, auto/rail modelers, et al
Postal ... branch post office openings, closings, first days
Terrestrial ... railway/highway first runs, last runs, re-runs
Naval ... launchings, deployments, homecomings, circumnavigations, ports-of-call, polar (anything)
Aviation ... first flights, airfield openings, races, competitions, exhibitions
Space ... (too many micro-categories to count, let alone list)
Olympics ... so many stamps that there must be a zillion covers
Jamborees ... surely the merit badge means that there are plenty of jamboree event covers?
Each of these categories has its own websites, specialty societies, literature, checklists, forum threads.
But what about the singularities?
What about events that folks did not even know were events?
For example: institution anniversaries, civil war re-enactments, demolitions ... do I know?
I'll start with (keywords) cover events Backgammon pmk 19800802 PH Baguio City
Q/ Do you have any Event Covers ... for events that folks did not even know were events?
Cheers,
/s/ ikeyPikey (who is well aware that this is a shameless lemons-into-lemonade post, but what else could I do with that cover?)

I see several machine slogans. While definitely cool, do the measure up to the OP focus of "event cover"?

Tarpon Springs FL hosts an annual Greek Festival ... do I know how they got there?
Okay, probably one-by-one.
... St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Tarpon Springs has organized for the past 113 years.
Cheers,

Oklahoma and Italians culture?"
Actually, Oklahoma has a substantial population of people of Italian heritage. They are mostly located in Pittsburg, Latimer, and Coal counties where coal was mined in the late 19th century. McAlester is the county seat of Pittsburg County, Oklahoma.

They could always find work in places like Michigan,Colorado, Arizona..anything to do with tunneling or mining.

"If a man would be anything, he must be himself." Linus 01 Jul 2019 09:53:07pmre: Event Covers ... for events that folks did not even know were events Phil - Same thing in Iowa, which had coal mining from about 1870 to 1940. The Italians migrated to Iowa by the thousands to work the coal mines in central and south central Iowa. The mines are long gone now, but today, we have a large Italian Heritage Festival annually in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. They block the street off and the food vendors are fabulous. I attended it a couple years ago with my daughter, and we watched a chef with a thick Italian accent make pasta with red sauce from scratch in a cooking demo. Free steaming bowls were given out afterward, it was so good!

Post a cover of a mine closing, mine disaster anniversary, whatever, and we'll be good, mate.
