I wanted to let everybody know I will be exhibiting my Apollo-Soyuz Test Project collection at the following shows: NAPEX June 7-9, 2019; OKPEX June 28-29, 2019; Minnesota Stamp Expo July 19-21, 2019; BALPEX August 30-September 1, 2019; SEAPEX September 13-15, 2019; MILCOPEX September 20-22, 2019 and FLOREX December 13-15, 2019. Let me know what you think of my exhibit.
Good luck, John. You're going to be going to the post office or UPS or Fedex a lot!
I've thought about you several times lately as I've been reading an interesting book about Apollo 18, Rocket Men — The daring odyssey of Apollo 8 and the Astronauts who made man's first journey to the moon, by Robert Kurson. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it as a great combination of social and technical history.
I always thought that Hollywood really dropped the ball when it came to scenes of manned spaceflight launches, but Kurson says that the vibration was so bad when Apollo 8 was launched that the astronauts couldn't hear anything but the noise the rocket was making — not each other and not even launch control. And they couldn't read any of their instruments.
I well remember when Apollo 8 disappeared behind the Moon. My wife and I were among several hundred million people holding our collective breath until the astronauts reestablished contact with Earth. I'm sure that many Stamporama members remember those moments. And, of course, we all know the stamp that was issued to commemorate Apollo 8. It's surely one of the great U.S. issues of the 20th Century:
John,
Congrats on your ambitious exhibition schedule! Excited for you. I will do my best to catch it at Florex. I would like to also commend you for your willingness to support SOR's "The Rambler". You answered the call every time while so many others sat on their hands. All the best with the exhibit John! -Ernie

re: Exhibiting my Apollo-Soyuz collection
If any member is going to the Minnesota Stamp Expo this weekend, when awards are posted, can anybody email me with my award? Thank you in advance.
I just found out I received a silver for my exhibit.
Congratulations, John. Perhaps we can see the exhibit some day? Sharing even a one-frame exhibit is a bit challenging, so won't hold my breath. Here's an idea, possibly a pie-in-the-sky idea, but an idea nevertheless. The British Columbia Philatelic Society is sponsoring its first national exhibition in several years. We have big hopes for it — 2019 is the 100th anniversary of the club's founding.
The exhibition is scheduled for 27-29 September. I assume that UPS or Fedex could get your exhibit to us in time for VANPEX, especially if you arrange for someone in Wisconsin to ship it. As I say, pie in the sky, but perhaps worth thinking about.
When I first became involved with the BC Philatelic Society, I didn't "get" exhibiting at all. But I learned that it's the very best way both to enjoy one's collection and to learn more about it. I'm currently working on a one-frame exhibit for VANPEX.
