re: USB Digital Microscopes - Anyone?
This is what i have tho i confess i use for more than stamp collecting as that wouldn't justify it for me. It has an add-on camera which i should make more use of than i do. But i have it connected to different pc than the one i use mostly and i can never seem to get it networked. Its not that often i can't see the detail i want with one of those little pocket carson things. Some things seem easier the old way for me like taking photos with an SLR rather than a cell phone. Tho i have managed to at least make phone calls on it recently
Hi Johnny Rockets Soft ware you have to download from their website I have a couple of photo's I have taken with it just have to find them?????Must be on my other computer. Will post them when I find them.

Here is the stand I use. The stand that came with the camera is useless. The base is too small.

Here is a close up of a 2 cents Washington from the Washington/Franklin series
My intended use was for examining stamps so I don't need much more than this set up.
I have a different model Celestron with the built in display The image quality is not the best but it works. It did come with a measuring strip so you can measure small distances.
As above my primary goal was to use as a more powerful hands free magnifying glass.
Can they be used to take pics of a whole stamp, instead of just an enlargement of a small area, so the image can be used to sell the stamp in an auction?
I have looked far and wide on the web for a suitable one for auction images. I was not able to find any that were under 20x or 40x. If I used a microscope like that and the stamp was a small souvenir sheet, I would have to capture the image from (in the next room) 20 feet away correct?
Most cell phones with cameras, do not have macro (close-up) capabilities. Any ideas?
I now use a UMAX flat bed scanner, which makes very sharp scans, but is rather slow, and a digital camera would be very much faster.

re: USB Digital Microscopes - Anyone?
There are alot of little macro add-ons for cell phones - price varies with quality. Trying searching on google with "Fisheye + Wide Angle + Macro Lens Kit Clip On for iPhone & Android" and you will find a bunch.

"Euros think a 100 miles is a long way, Americans think a 100 yrs is a long time..."
I use a Plugable USB Digital Microscope which I attached to an old photographic enlarger stand. The image shows an 80x75 mm souvenir sheet which was taken at a distance of about 18 inches. You could probably attach the device to a tripod, but the enlarger stand was handier for desktop use.
I purchased the item on Amazon. "Plugable USB 2.0 Digital Microscope with Flexible Arm Observation Stand for Windows, Mac, Linux (2 MP, 250x Magnification)." it is priced at $39.95. My stand is from an old photographic enlarger I had in my attic. The stand that comes with it will not give a wide enough field of view to photograph anything larger than a small definitive.
