I'm just after some information about the Italian workers stamps
Could someone please tell me what watermark is on the stamps?? Can you get some of these stamps with watermarks the wrong way also if there is any errors or varieties on these stamps. I have tried looking up the internet and couldn't find anything
Thankyou I know it is the Winged Wheel but can some of the watermarks be a different way?? I have quite alot of them and I just want to know about them
The Michel catalog of 2010 says (my translation, somewhat shortened): From 1952 on, there were three variants of the winged wheel watermark. In type I the wheel is taller than wide, in type II it is wider than tall, in type III it is almost round. Occasionally, all three types were used for the same stamp. From 1954 on, only types II and III were used. Since the differences are minor, difficult to distinguish, and only of interest to specialists, the variants are not listed separately in the standard catalog.

Nothing is free (this is like saying Google is free). If it was truly free then you would be able to use without coughing up your personal information (last time I checked you can use it free a few times but them they require you to sign up). Colnect sells your information, read their terms and conditions. You might as well put a sandwich board around your neck.
Many stamp collectors simply do not understand how this stuff works. Google reported $39 billion in revenue last year, not bad for a 'free' website. Just because you do not get spam email does not mean that others are not selling your personal information. They are tracking your movements, they are recording what you click on, they are making money on the traffic.

re: Italian Workers stamps
Errrr, I am not afraid but rather an IT professional with decades of internet and technology experience. I am also interested in letting people know what they are getting into instead of blindly recommending something as 'free' when it clearly is not.

But then again I have used colnect since I restarted collecting stamps (in fact it was Colnect that got me restart again because of the enormous amount of info you get there, you get connected to other collectors witch you can exchange stamps with if you want. You can match your list with the others list and from there make a exchange deal.
I was there for free for a while but are now a paying member, and I use it every day I work with stamps.
I have contributed to the site with better images of stamps and with some information of some stamps. The site info is maintained by members.
I have noticed before that you have only negative to say against Colnect, so I think there is something more behind this from your site, but I'm not interested in that and I will on this forum try to not mention Colnect to often. I will remove the link to my colnect site in my signature and from my profile here
By the way speaking of fee or not, I did find this on your site: Rare! First Edition!
Sure to become collectors items!
Of course not, but cool shirts nonetheless. Receive one free shirt when you donate US$35 or more

re: Italian Workers stamps
Nothing wrong with recommending Colnect (even when they repeatedly broke other philatelic forum rules and are now blocked from them); if you find them useful then I think posting a recommendation is fine. But when you posted that it is free, I felt accuracy was important and to clarify that it is not.
I am missing your point about the Stamp Smarter (which is opposite of Colnect) donation gift. Stamp Smarter is 100% free and its objective is to give back to the hobby as opposed to Colnect which is a commercial site. I do not require people to give me personal information to use Stamp Smarter nor do I break forum rules by trying to evade their policies. I have donated over 1500 man hours per year since Stamp Smarter started trying to give something back to philately and I have recently have been recognized by the APS with the Ernest A. Kehr award for “enduring contributions that help guarantee the future of the hobby”. Colnect’s objective is to make money off of hobbyists. Yes, Stamp Smarter does accept donations which go directly into an account to cover the monthly hosting costs. I set it up this way to ensure that the site would be available to all hobbyists free of charge if I died. So as long as a handful of thoughtful people continue to donate a few dollars, the site will stay available for all hobbyists even if I am no longer here. Additionally, there have been several offers to buy the site and there also have been offers to advertise on the site. I have turned them all down in the interest of keeping the site non-commercial and true to its original intent of helping all hobbyists without any commercial influence.
