Seventy Years ago gas was five or six cents a gallon, a schooner of beer was a plain nickel, and my parents rented an apartment for $45.00 a month in Flatbush, that was then a nice part of Brooklyn. (1940 census)
A reasonable adjustment for inflation shows that the value hasn't risen a sou.

In 1963 a buddy of mine and i rented a two bedroom apartment on Middagh St. in Brooklyn Heights for $94.00 a month...try multiplying the rent today..i hear that even the neighborhood where i lived off Nostrand Ave in Bed Sty as a little kid till my parents got me out of there has been gentified.
