Lovely piece, but what means 'handmade'?

Silk-screened one-by-one?

I can recall from the late 50's early 60's artists on the pier at Eastbourne would cut the silhouette while the customer sat sideways on.

Q/ Did the artist have a booth / concession at the exhibition?

Q/ Is each one unique?

Q/ Or, did the gift shop carry these, pre-cut?

These were done like personalized caricatures. Subject sits in profile, artist quickly cuts silhouette out of the paper with a pair of scissors and mounts on the backing.

Takes about 1 minute to cut the custom profile.

Actually, quite a talent.

Yup, I remember my friends families having these framed on their walls when I was a kid.

I see numerous copies of the 1933 official guide on ebay price ranging from $4.50 to 45.00. i would think $8 to $10 dollars would be a fair price.

.
Tonight (of all nights) WNET re-ran an old Antiques Roadshow (Miami) that featured - small world that it is - four free-cut silouettes made by Edouard Somebody in the 1840s.

One of the subjects who sat for a cut was Daniel Webster.

Here is a show label with a silhouette from my exhibition label collection. It is from SOJEX, Association of South Jersey Stamp Clubs.

So, Vince, whose silhouette is it, and what relationship does he hold to SOJEX?

I presume the signature belongs to the silhouette subject, but I can quite make it out. First 4 characters appear to be "Rich"...

I have no idea who it represents. I don't have any other material from that show that would give me an idea of who it is.
