I have a couple older hand held Long Wave UV Lights but the bulbs are about shot.
Finding replacement bulbs is not easy and the few I find are expensive. Seems I can get a new hand held LV light for under $10.00.
But while looking for replacement bulbs, I kept getting results for small Long Wave UV flashlights.
So I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using these newer LW UV flashlights for their stamps and opinions on them.
edited to add: Or can anyone suggest a source for replacement LW bulbs 6 inch, 4 watt HF4T5/BLB I think is what is on the bulb.
I bought a long wave LED flashlight. It's only about 6 inches in length, and didn't cost much. It works better than the one that Chris mentioned, which I also had.
You can find replacement bulbs on ebay. Also, check if you have a light bulb store in your area. Those bulbs were used in counterfeit currency detectors. With the revised currency, they are not used that much anymore, but you may be able to find them. The bulbs do not cost that much in the stores. They are over-priced if you go the " philatelic hobby" route. Perhaps Hobby Lobby might have them too. The weekly 40% off coupon would make the price even better. Search for what used to be called a "black light". It's basically the same thing as a long wave UV light.
My husband asked for one as a Christmas gift - the clerk at the store asked if it was going to be used to check for cat urine (uh no, will be used for geocaching). Apparently they have all kinds of uses.
