re: Looking for help with these overprints - Real or Fantasy?
Hi! I just joined Stamporama yesterday and have been checking some of the old postings. I have been collecting Poland for about 45 years. The typical catalog comment for early Poland stamps is "reproductions abound". It is very difficult to tell real from fake and the best thing you can do is be suspicious of all of them, especially overprints, unless you can get a letter of authenticity. I look at any without such letters as being not much more than album fillers. The fakes were done early and often!!! A letter from the seller is not worth much, it should be from a recognized authenticator. One from the seller only means he will return your money (hopefully) when you find out it is a fake! Happy collecting!
