Columbia County New York postcard collectors would be happy with this card i picked out of a dollar box today. It has postmarks from both Glenco Mills and Gallatinville New York..neither of which are in service today. I remember growing up in the 1950s, we had party line phones..but friends 7 miles apart would still communicate by postcards.
Nice card! I love the old ones with receiving cancels.
Here's one I got recently off the 'bay. Dealer had it listed as Estell Manor, NJ which is a current office. I needed it and the card was only a buck so I took a look. Interesting that they didn't mention Risley, NJ because this is a Last Day Cover for that office! It was renamed Estell Manor. And it's one of those New Years covers that spanned two years.
So it's in my album under Risley because Estell Manor is on my next postal jaunt!
D'ya suppose that Miss Emily was a postal historian?
Or, just an unwitting recipient (like the seller)?
It looks like the two stamps were placed to each catch one of the postmarks.
But, at least it separates them so they're both readable.
And, this is a great idea to document PO name changes, which sadly, are probably a thing-of-the-past...

Interestingly, Glenco Mills and Gallatinville are only about 10 miles apart. There is a road North of Gallatinville, where Earl M. Decker lived, named Decker Rd.
The Decker House hotel, built in 1875, is a landmark in my hometown, Maquoketa, Iowa. Its construction was financed by James Decker of Watertown, NY. I have two covers posted in 1875 from Maquoketa to James Decker in Watertown, one from Milburn Decker. I have another cover from a 'surrogate' in Watertown addressed to LN Decker, Esq, Maquoketa.
Watertown, NY is a long ways from Gallatinville, so any family connections are dubious.
