I've been lurking here for a long time and thought it was about time to join.
Some of you already know me, particularly those from the Wensy days...
I'm 62, recently retired (last week!) and a retired soldier. At the moment I am particularly interested in used USA and have recently started a "Stamp for every country" collection.
Welcome John and good hunting with your stamp for every country collection! I've e-mailed you a copy of the Excel checklist that I created for the Smithsonian album. Hopefully it will prove useful.
Welcome John, from about two hours west of Des Moines! Let me know if you plan to make the trek to the Omaha Stamp Show coming up this weekend. Not sure when I'll make it up there, but if you do come, I'd make every effort to meet you there. We can swap old soldier stories...

"What are you waiting for? Those stamps aren't going to collect themselves."

I grew up in Des Moines, started collecting around 1962. There were two stamp stores downtown when I started, Christiansons and then later the Stamp Corner in the Royal Union Building.
That probably predates your time there. Anyway, welcome!
George Gersib owned the Stamp Corner, I think it opened in the mid 60's and was still there well into the 70's. George could be a little touchy- especially with young customers- but overall a nice guy.
