I have a block of 20 1981 Christmas stamps Sc#1940 these have no value on them ,with a cancel "Global Air Letter Post".Were these the first No Value stamps issued by the USPO?
re: Which US stamp was the first issued with no value on it ?
No. The first non-denominated stamp was Scott #1736, an orange definitive with an eagle and the letter "A". It was issued May 22, 1978 and valued at 15c. Then came a purple stamp of the same design with the letter being "B". It was issued March 15, 1981 and valued at 18c. Then came the Brown stamp with the letter "C". It was issued October 11, 1981 and valued at 20c. Then 17 days after the "C" definitive stamp came out the 2 non-denominated Christmas issues on October, 28, 1981 and valued at 20c. The Christmas issues were a small definitive sized Madonna stamp (#1939) and your "Felt Bear on a Sled" commemorative stamp (#1940), the second Christmas stamp. Sorry I don't have scans of the earlier non-denominated stamps.
You will notice that we had 2 stamp price increases in 1981.That was a greedy year for the pPostal Service.
re: Which US stamp was the first issued with no value on it ?
I believe it was US Scott 1580, the 1975 Christmas stamp. It had no denomination in letters or numerals, just the term "US Postage". It paid the 10 cent first class postage rate of the time.

Antonio is only one-third correct.
According to Linn's, there were three stamps designed for first class use issued by the US post office on October 14, 1975, that did not have denominations.
They were:
Scott #1580 and #1580B (both have the same design as shown by Antonio.

Thank you all for your input,as I do not collect US stamps ,it got me wondering about if it was the first NVI stamp issued by the USPO .I now know it wasn't .
Thanks again guys

And, by the way, all the album pages offered on the American Philatelic Society's web site are free to everyone. You do not have to be a member of the APS to download them or many other things that are available for all collectors.
