Here's one from Iran:
It commemorates the downing of Iran Air Flight 655, shot down by the guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes while in Iranian airspace on July 3, 1988, killing all 290 on board - the deadliest air incident in history to date. This highly controversial episode resulted in the US paying a $61.8 million settlement to families of the victims, yet the US never formally apologized to Iran.
I pulled this stamp, on-cover, out of the trash when I was at University of Penn. I REALLY regret soaking it off its cover. The fact that it was postally used on a letter TO the US makes it highly collectible, to me, and I'm very sorry I obliterated the proof of its provenance.
