I have two FDC's from Rhodesia With locomotive stamps both cancelled 22 May 1969 .They have different cashes, one was mailed to Australia registered and has 4 backstamps.
Is there much difference in value between the two covers?Image Not Found

re: Rhodesian covers from 1969

Of course, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

But, I always prefer postally used items to strictly philatelic or commemorative items.

Both of these items would be called "philatelic", but the top one seems to have actually traversed the mails (as evidenced by the backstamps).

It would be interesting to compare the postage applied to the current rate for a Registered Air Mail letter. If those two values coincide, to me, that would add to the value.

Bottom line: I would value the top cover more than the bottom one.
By how much is hard to say.

By the way, that faint penciled cross across the top cover was 'code' for Registered, from the 1930s on, particularly in the British Commonwealth. But, that's a gross generalization, subject to revision by experts. Just another postal marking contributing to the cover's value...

Your Mileage May Vary.

re: Rhodesian covers from 1969

Top one looks a little aged/toned. It would go into my weekly ebay auctions with a start price of $3 (my minimum on ebay) and I would be happy if it sold for that.

The bottom one would go into my BuckaCover.com inventory at $1.50, and would decline in price over time if it did not sell right away.
